When will the noise barriers be built?

The Section C Project will likely begin in late 2026. It will take about three years to complete. Noise barriers are built as soon as possible by the contractors. However, substantial work is sometimes needed before the barriers can be built. Residents should be aware that the noise barriers are being constructed to mitigate noise from traffic post construction, not during all phases of construction itself

Noise Survey Results

On June 25, 2025, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission sent a noise ballot to benefited property owners in the project area to determine whether or not they desired a noise wall and if so, the preferred color and design of the neighborhood-facing side of the wall.

Benefited property owners are defined as those who will experience a five-decibel decrease or more in traffic noise levels with the installation of a noise barrier during the project’s design year (2025), as modeled in the Noise Impact Analysis Report. Property owners who were categorized as benefited in five (5) Noise Sensitive Areas (NSA) which warranted a noise barrier were sent packages including a Section I-95C project description, a Section I-95C project graphic, a Noise Community Meeting Newsletter, and a Noise Barrier Ballot. The ballot provided the recipients with the opportunity to vote on the inclusion of a noise wall along their respective NSA and their preferences for the color and design of the wall.

Traffic Noise Resources

A Final Design Noise Analysis was prepared for the Section C corridor from Galloway Road (Milepost 353) to Bensalem Boulevard (Milepost 355).  This report describes the methodology and presents the findings of the traffic noise study conducted for this widening and full-depth reconstruction project.

The noise study incorporated noise monitoring data, as well as noise modeling of existing and future conditions using the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model (TNM), version 2.5. Noise modeling was performed to predict noise levels throughout the project area under worst-case, peak-hour traffic conditions associated with existing conditions, the design year No-Build Alternative, and the design year Build Alternative.
