Back to Completed Construction
Project Description
As part of the I-95 Interchange Project, there are some unavoidable impacts to existing wetlands and streams. In order to provide mitigation for these impacts the Turnpike has constructed new wetlands and streams on a 37-acre parcel of land which is located at the intersection of Zimmerman Lane and Newportville Road in Middletown Township.
The site is on a parcel of land owned by the Turnpike. The details of the construction have been closely coordinated with all the required environmental agencies including the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Bucks County Conservation District and the Army Corps of Engineers.
The project included construction of 3 acres of wetlands and 3 small streams. The Turnpike acquired the site during earlier studies to construct the new interchange. The site was proposed for development of a mobile home park, however, the area is now restored by removal of the development infrastructure and construction of the wetlands and streams.
The mitigation project's intent is to provide a diverse wetland environment that fosters wildlife habitat, water quality enhancement and floodwater retention.
