Project Overview
This project will reconstruct and widen six miles of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Milepost 149 to Milepost 155 in Snake Spring and West Providence Townships, Bedford County. The roadway will be widened from four lanes to six lanes, featuring three 12-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction, a 26-foot median, and 12-foot-wide shoulders.
The project also involves replacing mainline bridges over local roads, lengthening culverts, construction sound barriers, and improving stormwater drainage through the area. As part of this multi-phase project, the PA Turnpike will advance four overhead bridge replacements—B-445 over Quarry Road and B-516 over Ashcom Road in Snake Spring Township, and B-517 over Black Valley Road and B-520 over North Milk & Water Road in West Providence Township. Additionally, two bridges—B-442 over Lutzville Road in Snake Spring Township and B-519 over Hollars Extension in West Providence Township—will be eliminated.
Upon completion, this reconstruction and widening will enhance safety and mobility for travelers on this section of the interstate.
