Project Overview
The PA Turnpike is moving forward with plans to build a brand-new interchange connecting the PA Turnpike to State Route 981 in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County. This exciting project is designed to improve local access to the PA Turnpike, making travel easier for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Located around Milepost 80.8 between the New Stanton and Donegal interchanges, the new connection will serve both eastbound and westbound traffic on the PA Turnpike. That means more direct access for drivers and reduced pressure on surrounding roads. This new access point is also made possible by the PA Turnpike’s transition to Open Road Tolling (ORT), which significantly reduces the cost and the space necessary for building new interchanges.
In addition to making travel more convenient, the new interchange will improve regional mobility and connectivity in the Greater New Stanton area. By improving connections to the region’s transportation network, this project supports job creation, business investment, and overall growth.
