Fall 2025 Update

Final design is currently underway for the mainline section of this corridor and environmental studies continue to advance in support of the environmental permitting process. Fieldwork is also underway to inform the design team of key features as they make every effort to minimize impacts to the community and the environment.

In recent weeks, you may have come across field crews conducting:

  • Utility Investigations - Subsurface utilities are being located off the shoulder of I-476 at Milepost A50.6, between Main Road West and Mill Road bridges.
  • Geotechnical Testing - Drilling is planned along the shoulders of I-476 northbound between the bridge over Chestnut Street and the northern project limit at Milepost A53, south of Lower Macungie Road. Work is scheduled to begin in mid-March and should last about 4 weeks, weather permitting. All work will be performed at night from Mondays through Thursdays.
  • Wetland Investigations – Additional fieldwork is planned to begin in mid-April and continue through mid-June. Work will be performed along both sides of the Turnpike between the bridges over Limeport Pike and Church View Road.

An Open House Plans Display was conducted on May 23, 2024. The team continues referencing the feedback provided and conducting follow-up studies as needed. Please note that the noise analysis displays shared at the public meeting are being updated and will be posted to the website when complete. Community noise meetings will be scheduled before final decisions are made on locations.
