Project Overview
The Buck Road Bridge Replacement Project will replace the bridge carrying Buck Road over the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 276) in Upper Southampton Township, Bucks County. The project area also extends into Lower Southampton Township. Originally constructed in 1954, the bridge has undergone routine maintenance and improvements over the years but has reached the end of its service life and requires full replacement to meet current safety and design standards.
The project is being led by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, with support from engineering consultants. Extensive planning has been undertaken to reduce impacts on the surrounding community and environment. Planned improvements include wider travel lanes, improved roadway and bridge alignment, enhanced sight distances, wider shoulders, and upgraded safety barriers.
To accommodate construction, Buck Road will be closed and detoured from early spring through late winter 2027 while the bridge is replaced. The detour route will follow County Line Road, Bustleton Pike, and Street Road. The detour is approximately 1.5 miles long and is expected to add about 4 to 5 minutes to travel times.
The project team is committed to keeping residents informed throughout construction and welcomes public feedback as work progresses. This critical infrastructure investment will improve safety, enhance mobility, and support the region's transportation needs for decades to come.
