Winter 2026 Update
Final design is nearing completion, and key environmental studies, including bat surveys, have been completed. The project received Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) permit approval in mid-October. Crews are currently installing automated lane gates (shown above) at the eastbound Kittatinny Tunnel and westbound Blue Mountain Tunnel approaches. The PA Turnpike uses lane gates, an automated lane closure warning system, to manage traffic on the approach to the tunnel.
