Turnpike Wins International Award for Social Responsibility
Responsibility matters, and so does clean water.
The PA Turnpike excels at both and recently won an international award for it.
The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association announced its 2022 Toll Excellence Award winners last week, and the PA Turnpike won in the category of Social Responsibility.
The award recognizes the Turnpike’s efforts in reducing pollutants in storm-water runoff and working to go above and beyond Pennsylvania’s regulations for Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems, or MS4.
“It’s an honor for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission,” said Senior Engineer Project Manager Nick Noss, who helps lead the Turnpike’s MS4 program. “When it comes to preventing pollution, it sets the bar even higher and continues to motivate us to be an innovator in our industry and beyond.”
Noss will be attending the IBTTA conference in Austin, Texas, Sept. 19, 2022, to receive the award and give a presentation about the Turnpike’s MS4 program to an international audience of about 700.
The award recognizes the Turnpike’s efforts in public outreach and education about clean water, as well as developing and managing technology to reduce runoff and to allow customers to report storm-water issues, all to live up to the Turnpike’s core value of Responsibility Matters.
But Noss is quick to point out this isn’t his award alone.
“This is the entire commission working very diligently,” he said. “It’s a testament to how seriously folks take pollution prevention and how well we’re doing. It’s a team effort.”
And the award is not the end of the Turnpike’s efforts towards clean water and pollution prevention.
“We hope to continue to be successful and to be a leader,” Noss said. “We’re being recognized for our past accomplishments, which will be ongoing into the future.”
