Another successful season has wrapped up for the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Giving Garden, which is helping to feed many in need in the community.

Giving Garden lead volunteer Pam Hess (pictured below) said this year, the garden has grown more than 1,160 pounds of vegetables, all of which have been donated to local food banks.

It’s an impressive number of veggies for a small plot near the Central Administration Building’s walking trail. Check out this time-lapse video from the season:

Hess and a team of about a dozen regular volunteers and a rotation of helpers each week from all of the Turnpike’s departments kept the garden going through the season. Planting, maintaining the sprinkler system, weeding, harvesting, all to help the garden to give back to the community.

“I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough to all of the volunteers who gave their time and support to help the garden not only grow, but thrive,” Hess said.

Now it is time for the garden to be torn down for the winter in preparation for another growing season next year.
