Celebrating Our Winter Warriors: Brooks Sigel

Home News Stories from the Turnpike Celebrating Our Winter Warriors: Brooks Sigel

Growing up in Breezewood, the PA Turnpike was pretty much in Brooks Sigel’s backyard, and it seemed like a great place to work.

“I’ve always liked operating equipment and different things like that, so I thought I’d take this up,” he said.

Now as an equipment operator at the Kegg Maintenance Facility, Sigel is one of the Turnpike’s Winter Warriors – those who jump behind the wheel of a plow truck and keep the highway safe for travelers in the harshest of winter conditions.

He talks about his job in this video:

Though this winter hasn’t been too bad in many areas of the state, Sigel has braved some of Old Man Winter’s most frigid volleys in his seven years with the Turnpike.

Kegg has a great group to work with, Sigel said, and they really come together to cover the area between the Bedford Interchange and the Allegheny Tunnel.

When he’s not at work, he enjoys sports. Sigel likes to hunt and is looking forward to spring turkey season.
