Northeast Extension Closure Scheduled Southbound for Sunday Morning to Allow for Repairs at Hawk Falls Bridge
CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) advises drivers that the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) will be closed to traffic from 12 a.m. until 5 a.m. on Sunday, December 21 southbound only between the PA 903 Interchange (Exit #87) and Pocono Interchange (Exit #95).
While routine construction and maintenance work is currently suspended on the PA Turnpike system due to the winter holiday travel period, unexpected repairs are needed on the Hawk Falls Bridge (Milepost 88.6). The early morning closure will allow crews to safely make those repairs while minimizing traffic impacts.
During the closure, the following detour will be in place:
| SOUTHBOUND DETOUR • I-80 East 7.8 miles • PA 115 South 1.8 miles • PA 903 South 7.1 miles • Re-enter at the PA 903 Interchange #87 |
Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on the closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
