PA Turnpike Engineer Named ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Young Leader to Follow’ by Industry Association
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — A leading engineering association has honored a Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) traffic engineer for his work at the PA Turnpike and for his efforts with their organization.
Keith Meehan, a Senior Engineering Project Manager in the Turnpike’s Traffic Engineering and Operations Department, was named by The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) as a “Young Leader to Follow for 2025” and the “2025 ITE Mid-Colonial District Rising Star” earlier this summer. ITE recognized Meehan for his, “technical acumen, collaborative leadership, and unwavering commitment to advancing the industry and its next generation of professionals.”
Meehan will be recognized for his honors at the ITE International Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla., August 10-13.
“It’s humbling to be recognized with this vote of confidence from your peers,” Meehan said. “Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky to have strong support and guidance, particularly in places like the PA Turnpike that truly value innovation and invest in professional growth.”
Meehan is part of the PA Turnpike’s Subcommittee on Work Zone Safety and was instrumental in the development of the award-winning Work Zone Speed Safety Camera Program, which has been slowing traffic, reducing the PA Turnpike’s work-zone crash rate, and protecting workers on the highway. He is also involved with the PA Turnpike’s efforts to plan for and provide policy and infrastructure guidance through the Connected, Automated, Shared and Electric Vehicle Working Group.
Prior to coming to the PA Turnpike in 2024, Meehan worked for more than 10 years as a consultant with Michael Baker International. Meehan, originally from Erie, is a 2012 graduate of Penn State University.
“Congratulations to Keith for this deserving recognition,” said Tom Macchione, PA Turnpike Director of Traffic Engineering & Operations. “We cannot be an industry leader without employees like Keith who are driven by a deep commitment to safety and growth.”
The ITE was founded in 1930 and has 18,000 members who work to improve mobility and safety for all transportation system users.
