Overnight Closure Scheduled on Northeast Extension between Pocono and Wyoming Valley Interchanges

Weekend closure scheduled to minimize traffic impacts

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) advises travelers that a section of the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) will be closed during the early morning hours of Sunday, February 23 to allow PA Turnpike crews to safely replace bridge beams.  

The Northeast Extension will be closed in both directions between the Pocono (Exit 95) and Wyoming Valley (Exit 115) interchanges between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Sunday so PA Turnpike crews can safely conduct the necessary work. During this time, traffic will not be able to enter or exit at the Wilkes- Barre (105) interchange.  

The following detours will be in place for Northeast Extension travelers: 

NORTHBOUND AT POCONO  SOUTHBOUND AT WYOMING VALLEY 
• I-80 West 16.8 miles  • PA 315 South 1.4 miles 
• I-81 North 23.6 miles  • I-81 South 23.7 miles 
• PA 315 North 0.3 miles  • I-80 East 16.8 miles 
• Re-enter at Wyoming Valley Interchange   • Re-enter at Pocono Interchange 

 The following detours will be in place for those who would enter at Wilkes Barre (Exit 105): 

NORTHBOUND DETOUR  SOUTHBOUND DETOUR 
• PA 115 North 4.1 miles  • PA 115 South 15.8 miles 
• I-81 North 4.6 miles  • I-80 West 7.0 miles 
• PA Route 315 North 0.5 miles  • Enter at Pocono Interchange 
• Enter at Wyoming Valley Interchange   

Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on the closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
