Closures Scheduled Overnight This Weekend on Northeast Extension

Overnight work scheduled to minimize traffic delays for customers

CARBON COUNTY, Pa. —The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) advises drivers that road closures are scheduled again this weekend on the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476). 

The Northeast Extension will be closed in both directions on Friday, Oct. 11 at 11 p.m. until Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6 a.m. and the southbound lanes will be closed from Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 p.m. until Sunday, Oct. 13 at 6 a.m. between the Route 903 (Exit 87) and Pocono (Exit 95) Interchanges. The closures are necessary to allow PA Turnpike crews to continue to safely make repairs in the area of the Hawk Falls Bridge Replacement Project (Milepost A88.6) that are needed on the current roadway prior to winter.

During the closure, the following suggested detours will be in place:

❖ PA Route 115 North, 2.1 miles ❖ PA Route 115 South, 1.8 miles

❖ Re-enter at the Pocono Interchange #95 ❖ Re-enter at the PA 903 Interchange #87

Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on the closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.

This roadwork is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's mission to operate a safe, reliable, customer-valued toll road system that supports national mobility and commerce. In 2023, the PA Turnpike supported more than $690 million in construction bids for roadway maintenance and improvements to modernize the Turnpike and improve customer experience, including resurfacing more than 46 miles of roadway, undertaking total reconstruction of 27 miles of roadway, an all-time high, and replacing two major bridges at Beaver River and Hawk Falls.
