Possible Delays Expected on PA Turnpike and I-476

Possible Delays Expected on PA Turnpike and I-476

Early morning traffic paces planned on Northeast Extension

BUCKS COUNTY, PA – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling on the Northeast Extension (I-476) northbound and southbound to be prepared for slow-moving traffic paces the next two Saturday mornings around 3 a.m. There will be intermittent, 20-minute traffic paces in this area.  The slow-moving traffic paces are necessary for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely perform a new traffic configuration as part of the A38-A43 Total Reconstruction Project on I-476 in Bucks County.

The intermittent places will take place Saturday, September 14 for northbound travelers between Lansdale (Exit 31) and Quakertown (Exit 44) and Saturday, September 21 for southbound travelers between Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Lansdale (Exit 31).

During the paces, PA Turnpike maintenance and Pennsylvania State Police vehicles will restrict PA Turnpike traffic to a speed of 20-25 miles per hour. Motorists traveling in these directions on I-476 are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.

PSP and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.

The PA Turnpike was America’s First Superhighway when it was built 84 years ago and reconstructing the original highway to modern standards has been a key priority in recent years. The PA Turnpike’s total reconstruction initiative expands the roadway to six-lanes to improve safety and capacity, while also providing better access in major corridors.
