Closure scheduled to minimize impacts for travelers
LEHIGH COUNTY, PA —The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling on the Northeast Extension (I-476) in Lehigh and Bucks County that a bridge replacement project will lead to an overnight road closure this weekend.
To allow for beams to be safely erected as part of the replacement of bridge NB-349 (Tilghman Street), the Northeast Extension is scheduled to be closed to northbound traffic on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. between the Quakertown (Exit 44) and Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) interchanges.
The following suggested detour will be in place during the closure:
- PA Route 663 North 3.3 miles
- PA Route 309 North 9.3 miles
- Interstate 78 West 6.3 miles
- PA Route 309 North 1.0 miles
- U.S. Route 22 West 1.1 miles
- Re-enter at Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56
Southbound traffic will not be impacted with this closure. Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on the closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
