Overnight Closure Scheduled for Southbound Ramp to I-83
Overnight work scheduled to minimize traffic delays for customers.
MIDDLETOWN, PA — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PA Turnpike) advises motorists that there will be a planned closure of the southbound ramp to I-83, just outside of the Harrisburg West Interchange (Exit 242), on Thursday, June 27 from 11 p.m. to Friday, June 28 at 3 a.m. The closure is required for median barrier repair.
During the southbound ramp closures to I-83, traffic will be directed off the Turnpike and drivers can use the following suggested detours to get back on the Turnpike:
Entering PA Turnpike from I-83 South Detour:
- 83 South Exit 39-A (Lewisberry Rd / Rt 114)
- Turn right at stop sign on top of the ramp following SR-114 East
- Continue to entrance to I-83 North and turn right Proceed approximately ¼ mi to Exit 39-B to enter the PA Turnpike
Entering I-83 South from PA Turnpike Detour:
- Use I-83 North Exit 40-A (Limekiln Rd)
- Turn right at traffic signal at the bottom of the ramp
- Continue on Limekiln Rd approximately ¼ mi to the entrance to I-83 South.
Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on this closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.

This roadwork is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC)'s mission to operate a safe, reliable, customer-valued toll road system that supports national mobility and commerce. In 2023, the PTC supported more than $690 million in construction bids for roadway maintenance and improvements to modernize the Turnpike and improve customer experience, including resurfacing more than 46 miles of roadway, undertaking total reconstruction of 27 miles of roadway, an all-time high, and replacing two major bridges at Beaver River and Hawk Falls.
