Ramp Closures Scheduled in Central PA this Weekend

Ramp Closures Scheduled in Central PA this Weekend

Contractors will be testing pavement structures at Harrisburg West and Gettysburg Pike interchanges in Cumberland County.

MIDDLETOWN, PA -- Motorists are advised that, weather permitting, planned closures at the ramps on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) at the Harrisburg West Interchange, Exit 242, and thereafter at the Gettysburg Pike Interchange, Exit 236, will result in local, overnight detours in Central PA this weekend.

While the interchanges will be open, access, via the entry and exit ramps, will be closed at various times in the overnight pavement testing operation. This will result in detours in both directions, as well as, work zones in the ramp areas. During the testing, only one ramp will be closed at any point in the operation. But motorists should be alert, watch for slow moving vehicles and drive with caution through these areas.

This mobile testing operation for the Harrisburg West Interchange will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, and will be completed by 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Thereafter, at 11 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, the mobile testing operation for the Gettysburg Pike Interchange will begin. That testing is slated to be completed by 4 a.m. on Monday, March 25.

The primary purpose of this type of testing, known as coring, is to verify the existing pavement structure conditions and depths.

Those traveling overnight in Central PA this weekend should plan ahead or avoid these areas. Ramp detours, as attached, will be in place at various times during the mobile testing operation.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on closures and detours.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

Motorists may also follow the Turnpike’s X account Pennsylvania Turnpike (@PA_Turnpike) / X (twitter.com) to keep up to date on any closures, delays or detours.
