Emergency westbound lane closure in Beaver County

Emergency westbound lane closure in Beaver County

Expected to last until Friday as Turnpike crews repair large pothole that has formed in bridge deck

BEAVER COUNTY, PA — The PA Turnpike is alerting travelers of a lane closure while maintenance crews are making emergency road repairs.

Turnpike crews on Wednesday had patched the pothole, located in the right lane at Milepost 21.2 westbound on the bridge over PA Route 68 between the Cranberry and Beaver Valley interchanges. On Thursday morning, the pothole redeveloped, and Turnpike Maintenance crews quickly closed the right lane and began working with contractor crews who have been working on the nearby Beaver River Bridge Project to make the more extensive repairs.

Due to forecasts calling for thunderstorms on Thursday night and into Friday morning, crews will not be able to pour the concrete until the storms pass. To ensure the concrete repair meets strength requirements, this means the right lane closure will likely remain in effect until Friday afternoon or evening. The bridge itself has no structural issues.

There is currently a westbound traffic backlog for several miles preceding the right lane closure. Backlogs are anticipated until approximately 7 p.m. Thursday as well as on Friday between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Those who anticipate driving westbound past Cranberry Interchange are advised to consider using the suggested alternate route:

  • Exit Turnpike at Cranberry #28 and travel I-79 North for 40 miles
  • Take US-422 West for 14.6 miles
  • Take I-376 East for 10.8 miles
  • Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the New Castle Interchange #10
