Overnight Weekend Closure between Butler Valley and Cranberry Interchanges

Overnight Weekend Closure between Butler Valley and Cranberry Interchanges

Two-hour Turnpike closure needed for overhead toll gantry installation.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) advises I-76 motorists traveling between the Butler Valley Interchange, Exit 39, and the Cranberry Interchange, Exit 28, of lane restrictions beginning tomorrow evening, followed by a complete closure overnight in this area on Sunday, June 5, between 12: 01 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Lane closures in both directions are slated to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, and will continue through 9 a.m. on Sunday morning even after the interchanges have re-opened. Motorists are advised to plan ahead.

The traffic restrictions and closure at the Warrendale Tolling Point are needed to allow crews to safely install a six-lane overhead gantry in the construction zone between Mileposts 28 to 31.

During the 2-hour overnight closure, drivers should use the following recommended detour when exiting westbound at Butler Valley Interchange, Exit 39:

  • State Route 8 north (6.6 miles)
  • State Route 228 west (8.7 miles)
  • I-79 South to Exit 77 (0.8 miles)
  • Re-enter the Turnpike at the Cranberry Interchange, Exit 28.
  • Follow signs to Ohio and West.

Drivers exiting eastbound at the Cranberry Interchange, Exit 28, should use the following recommended detour:

  • I-79 North to State Route 228 east (8.7 miles)
  • State Route 8 south (6.6 miles)
  • Re-enter the Turnpike at the Butler Valley Interchange, Exit 39
  • Follow signs to Harrisburg and east.

During the closure, expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure.

This work is a part of the total reconstruction project between mileposts 28 to 31, for more information visit the project  website Total reconstruction Mileposts 28 to 31.
