PA Turnpike Virtual Presentation Planned June 29 for Mon/Fayette Expressway Project
Public invited to see design modifications near Dravosburg/West Mifflin.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is inviting the public to view, via its website, design modifications of the Dravosburg Interchange to be located near Camp Hollow Road and Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard as part of the Mon/Fayette Expressway PA Route 51 to I-376 Project in Allegheny County.
The modifications will focus on the specific area between Dravosburg and West Mifflin where the interchange will be built. The original plans called for a connector road in the area. The redesign now calls for a round-about.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the modifications will be explained via a video that can be found on the Turnpike’s website at: www.paturnpikemonfayette.com. The video, which will be posted on June 29, will have maps showing exactly where and what the modifications will look like.
After viewing the video, the public will be able to submit questions and provide comments via the website. All questions will be answered by a project engineer in a timely fashion. Comments and questions will be accepted until July 31. The video will stay on the website indefinitely.
Two years ago, the entire Mon/Fayette Project was on display during three separate open house events. Since that time right-of-way acquisition has been taking place in the areas of Jefferson Hills, West Mifflin, Dravosburg, the City of Duquesne and the City of Clairton. Once all property needed for this project is acquired, construction will begin.
A 10-year, $20-million contract was recently awarded to Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Inc. (JMT) of Hunt Valley, Maryland, which also has a local office in the Pittsburgh area. JMT will oversee construction of this section from PA Route 51 in Jefferson Hills to PA Route 837 in Duquesne by helping with planning and design through completion while also managing project time, cost and quality on behalf of the PA Turnpike.
More information about the entire project including the video presentation can be found on the project website at: www.paturnpikemonfayette.com.
