News & Public Involvement

The Allegheny Mountain Realignment project will build a new roadway in the Allegheny Mountain area, one of the most important east-west connectors in our state. The PTC is replacing the Allegheny Tunnel with a new seven-lane roadway (three lanes eastbound and four westbound, including a truck climbing lane) that will improve safety and ease congestion for more than 11 million vehicles that use the tunnel annually.

The project is now in the Preliminary Design Phase, which is expected to last approximately four years. Project information will be shared with the public for review and input through public meetings and other communications as design progresses.
