Southbound Road Closure Scheduled on Northeast Extension Between Lehigh Valley and Quakertown Interchanges
Early morning closure for bridge replacement project scheduled to minimize travel impacts.
LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) advises motorists traveling southbound on the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) in Lehigh and Bucks County that a bridge replacement project will lead to an early morning road closure.
To allow for beams to be safely erected as part of the replacement of bridge NB-349 (Tilghman Street), the Northeast Extension is scheduled to be closed to southbound travelers on Sunday, August 10 from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges. Northbound traffic in the corridor will not be impacted.
The bridge replacement is part of a plan to reconstruct and widen the Northeast Extension from milepost A53 to A57. The following suggested detour will be in place during the closure:
• US 22 East 0.5 miles
• PA 309 South 2.0 miles
• I-78 East 6.2 miles
• PA 309 South 9.2 miles
• PA 663 South 3.2 miles
• Re-enter at the Quakertown Interchange #44
Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on this closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
