Planned Closures Scheduled Between Quakertown and Lehigh Valley Interchanges
Early morning work planned to minimize traffic impacts.
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) advises motorists traveling on the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) in Lehigh and Bucks County of planned detours between the Quakertown (Exit 44) and Lehigh Valey (Exit 56) Interchanges.
The closures are necessary for beam erection for Lower Macungie Road Bridge Replacement, which will support the total reconstruction project from Milepost A53 to A57. The PA Turnpike’s Total Reconstruction initiative transforms America’s first superhighway to provide a safer and more efficient travel experience for PA Turnpike customers. This system-wide initiative expands the PA Turnpike, improves capacity and major corridor access.
The Northeast Extension is scheduled to close in both directions between Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) from 12 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 21. Southbound lanes only between these interchanges will be closed again on Monday, June 23 from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m.
The following suggested detour will be in place during the closures:
Northbound detour
• PA 663 North 3.3 miles
• PA 309 North 9.3 miles
• I-78 West 6.3 miles
• PA 309 North 1.0 miles
• US 22 West or Tilghman Street west 1.1 miles
• Re-enter at the Lehigh Valley Interchange #56
Southbound Detour

• PA 309 South 2.0 miles
• I-78 East 6.2 miles
• PA 309 South 9.2 miles
• PA 663 South 3.2 miles
• Re-enter at the Quakertown Interchange #44
