Overnight Closures Scheduled at Highspire Service Plaza
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. —The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) is advising eastbound drivers about upcoming overnight closures at the Highspire Service Plaza (MP 249.7).
The plaza will be closed from Monday, October 21 at 9 p.m. until Tuesday, October 22 at 6 a.m., Tuesday, October 22 at 9 p.m. until Wednesday, October 23 at 6 a.m., as well as Wednesday, October 23 at 9 p.m. until Thursday, October 24 at 6 a.m. These closures allow PA Turnpike crews to safely resurface asphalt in the area.
Information will be posted and announcements will be made inside the plaza warning customers of the impending closure. If customers remain at the service plaza once the closures go into effect, they will be required to stay there until reopening. During the closures, eastbound motorists needing fuel and food who wish to remain on the Turnpike should stop about 30 miles prior to Highspire at the Cumberland Valley Service Plaza or continue to travel to the Bowmansville Service Plaza, about 40 miles down the road from Highspire.

This roadwork is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's mission to operate a safe, reliable, customer-valued toll road system that supports national mobility and commerce. In 2023, the PA Turnpike supported more than $690 million in construction bids for roadway maintenance and improvements to modernize the Turnpike and improve customer experience, including resurfacing more than 46 miles of roadway, undertaking total reconstruction of 27 miles of roadway, an all-time high, and replacing two major bridges at Beaver River and Hawk Falls.
