PA Turnpike Ready for Busy Labor Day Weekend
Traffic projected to be at record high-levels as travelers hit the road for one last summer getaway.
MIDDLETOWN, PA — As Pennsylvanians get ready for Summer’s last hurrah, the Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) is ramping up efforts to support the estimated 2.9 million motorists travelling on the PA Turnpike system in getting to their destinations safely.
The projection for the five-day period between Thursday, Aug. 29 and Monday, Sep. 2 is slightly above last year’s total traffic levels (2.84 million) and on par with 2019’s record travel levels (2.89 million).
Date | Total Cars/Trucks |
---|---|
Thursday, Aug. 29 | 670,000 |
Friday, Aug. 30 | 720,000 |
Saturday, Aug. 31 | 540,000 |
Sunday, Sep. 1 | 480,000 |
Monday, Sep. 2 | 480,000 |
5-DAY PROJECTION | 2,890,000 |
The PA Turnpike will have an increased number of GEICO Safety Patrol safety teams throughout the roadway that are there to respond to travelers in need of assistance. All roadway construction and maintenance projects will be suspended beginning Thursday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. until Monday, Sep. 2 at 11 p.m. to keep lanes open and minimize congestion.
While construction and maintenance projects are suspended, the PA Turnpike is reminding drivers to “Go Orange,” commit to safety, slow down, practice safe driving habits, pay attention in work zones and consider the vulnerability of highway workers who are supporting the holiday traffic. Pennsylvania State Police Troop T will also have increased patrols over the holiday weekend to respond to support roadway safety.
