PA Turnpike Hosts Open House Public Plans Display in Emmaus, PA

The public is invited to review plans for five miles of a new Northeast Extension Total Reconstruction and Widening Project planned in Lehigh County.

LEHIGH COUNTY — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) will hold an Open House Public Plans Display for a Northeast Extension Total Reconstruction and Widening Project from Milepost A48-A53, in the municipalities of Lower Milford, Upper Milford, Emmaus, and Lower Macungie.

The open house is scheduled as follows:

Date:

Thursday, May 23, 2024

Time:

6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Location:

Emmaus High School Cafeteria (Pine Street Entrance)

500 Macungie Avenue

Emmaus, PA 18049

The public and interested stakeholders may drop in at their convenience between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. There will not be a formal presentation.

This project is part of the PTC’s Total Reconstruction Initiative focused on safety and mobility.  To date the PTC has rebuilt 155 miles of roadway including sections of the Northeast Extension.  The new modern design includes converting the existing four-lane highway into a six-lane facility with three 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 26-foot median, and 12-foot outside shoulders. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028.

Residents and stakeholders along the corridor between Limeport Pike and Lower Macungie Road are encouraged to attend. Turnpike representatives will be available to review the engineering design plans, noise studies, and associated environmental and property impacts before the right-of-way acquisition phase begins. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and talk to the design team one-on-one.

For those not able to attend the meeting in person, the information will be posted to the project website at Milepost A48 - A53w (paturnpike.com) on May 23, 2024. The community is encouraged to submit their questions through the comment form available on the website.

The meeting location is accessible to people with disabilities.  Anyone with questions or requiring special accommodations should contact Joseph Roman at least seven days before the meeting by phone at (717) 831-7106 or by email at joroman@paturnpike.com.
