PA Turnpike (I-476) to Close Overnight Sept. 10 between Quakertown and Lehigh Valley Interchanges

Five-hour closures in both directions needed for bridge beam installation.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the Northeastern Extension (I-476) will be closed northbound from 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 10 to 4:30 a.m. Sunday, September 11 between the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44, Bucks County, and the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56, Lehigh County.

Then, the Northeastern Extension (I-476) will be closed southbound from 1:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 11 between the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56, Lehigh County, and the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44, Bucks County. 

The closures are necessary for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely install new overhead bridge beams.  The new bridge, which carries Vera Cruz Road over the Turnpike, crosses I-476 at milepost A49.67 in Lehigh County.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted interchanges to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on closures and detours.

Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.

Northbound Detour

Exit at the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44. Take State Route 663 north to State Route 309 north to Interstate 78 west, then to State Route 309 north.  Follow to U.S. Route 22 west or Tilghman Street west. Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56.

Southbound Detour

Exit at the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56.  Take U.S. Route 22 east to State Route 309 south to Interstate 78 east. Then follow to State Route 309 south to State Route 663 south. Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44.
