Possible Delays Expected Near Harrisburg East Interchange Over Next Several Weeks
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. —The Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) is alerting travelers of possible delays expected on the PA Turnpike (I-76).
Starting Thursday April 3rd, traffic paces may occur for a 20-minute period on weekdays between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow PA Turnpike personnel and construction crews to safely conduct controlled blasting operations in the area. When needed, paces will begin at milepost 230.2 for eastbound traffic and the Harrisburg East Interchange for westbound traffic. Paces will also be necessary off the Turnpike on State Route 2017 (Lisburn Road).
The traffic paces will occur as needed over the next several weeks to keep motorists and workers safe. During the paces, PA Turnpike maintenance crews and PA State Police will stop traffic or restrict traffic to a speed of 20-25 miles an hour until blasting is complete. Motorists in the area should be prepared for slow-moving traffic and possible stoppages. This construction work operations will not be conducted during the Easter holiday weekend (April 17-21) and during the Spring Carlisle Auto Show (April 24-27) to minimize traffic impacts due to increased traffic volumes.
This work is part of a construction project to build access ramps at Milepost 238.24 on both the Eastbound and Westbound sides of the roadway. Changeable Message Signs will alert drivers in the area of the potential for paces and motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
