Pennsylvania Turnpike Closure Planned Between Allegheny and Butler Valley on May 22
Six-hour, overnight closure necessary for bridge beam erection.


The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission alerts motorists of a six-hour, westbound closure between the Allegheny Valley Interchange, Exit #48, and the Butler Valley Interchange, Exit #39, planned for May 22 between midnight and 6 a.m. to erect bridge beams.


Drivers traveling westbound will need to exit the Allegheny Valley Interchange and should use the following approved detour to return to the Turnpike: 


WESTBOUND TRAFFIC Exiting at Allegheny Valley Interchange

Follow Freeport Road south (0.7 miles)

Right to State Route 910 west (0.5 miles)

Take ramp to State Route 28 south (7.5 miles)

Take ramp to State Route 8 north to Butler Valley Interchange (10 miles)


Alternate-route cards will be available to travelers exiting at the Allegheny Valley Interchange during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during this time.

The westbound closure is necessary to allow crews to safely erect bridge beams for the replacement of the overhead bridge that carries Gibsonia Road (State Route 0910) over the Turnpike at milepost 43.6.  This work is weather-dependent and is part of the total reconstruction of the Turnpike from milepost 40 to 48.  For more information on this project please visit
