Pennsylvania Turnpike to Close Sept. 13 Westbound Between Butler Valley and Allegheny Valley
Five-hour, overnight closure necessary for overhead bridge beam erection.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) alerts motorists that the Turnpike (I-76) will be closed westbound only between the Butler Valley Interchange (Exit #39) and Allegheny Valley Interchange (Exit #48) from midnight until 5 a.m., Sept. 13. Drivers exiting at Allegheny Valley Interchange should use the following approved detour:

Exit at Allegheny Valley Interchange

Follow Freeport Road south (0.7 miles)
Right onto State Route 910 west (10 miles)
Take ramp to State Route 8 south (1.7 miles) to Butler Valley Interchange

Alternate-route cards will be available at Allegheny Valley Interchange during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during this time. Message boards will be in place to inform customers of the closure and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts on station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.

The closure is needed to erect bridge beams for the replacement bridge that carries Saxonburg Blvd. (S.R. 1013) over the Turnpike at milepost 43.13. The new bridge is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2015.

Bridge replacements are early-action projects needed to accommodate the total reconstruction of the Turnpike from milepost 40 to 48. Four bridges (Middle Road, two Gibsonia Road bridges and Rich Hill Road) have been replaced and opened to traffic since work began in early 2013. Over the next three years, one additional bridge in the area will be replaced while the mainline is reconstructed and widened between the Butler Valley and Allegheny Valley interchanges.  For more information on this project please visit
