15-Minute Stoppage Scheduled for Southbound Lehigh Tunnel Sept. 13-14

Work inside the tunnel to impact traffic on I-476 in Carbon County.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) to be prepared for a traffic stoppage of no more than 15-minutes between 11:45 p.m. Sept. 13 and 12:30 a.m. Sept. 14 for crews to work on a closed-circuit camera inside the southbound tube.

Scheduled to occur between midnight and 12:15 a.m., all traffic approaching the tunnel south of the Mahoning Valley Interchange (Exit #74) will be stopped to allow workers to safely perform camera repairs inside the tunnel. Motorists should be prepared for slow moving or stopped traffic approaching the Lehigh Tunnel. To avoid delays motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.

Message boards will be activated to update motorists of any changes in the schedule caused by inclement weather or unforeseen traffic conditions.

Motorists traveling on I-476 should stay alert when approaching and entering the tunnel. Drivers are urged to turn on headlights, slow down and keep an adequate distance from the vehicle you are following; remain in your lane and do not pass in the tunnel. If you experience car trouble and cannot safely exit the tunnel, stay in your car, put on your hazard lights and wait for assistance. Tunnel personnel will send help for disabled vehicles.

Travel advisories will be posted at and Highway Advisory Radio (1640 AM) will be activated to provide travel updates.
