PA TURNPIKE CELEBRATES NATIONAL EMS WEEK
Offers Free Blood Pressure Screening and Child Safety Seat Inspections

Philadelphia, PA –, The Pennsylvania Turnpike will commemorate Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Week next week honoring the lifesaving care that EMS providers offer nationwide, 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Turnpike activities include offering Turnpike customers free blood pressure screening and child safety seat inspections.

Director of Operations and Incident Management Allen Baldwin and Joseph Rispoli, Manager of Customer Safety said, "This year’s theme, ‘Answering the Call,’ emphasizes the importance of the national 911 emergency number and celebrates the commitment of the nation’s 750,000 EMS providers who serve their communities."

Baldwin said that Turnpike activities will take place on Tuesday, May 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sideling Hill Service Plaza (located 11 miles east of the Breezewood Interchange Exit #12/161) and Allentown Service Plaza (located two miles south of the Lehigh Valley Interchange on the Northeastern Extension, I-476). Providing blood pressure screening at the Sideling Hill location will be the Hustontown Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance and at the Allentown location, the Cetronia Ambulance Corporation.

Customers are invited to stop by either service plaza to receive a free blood pressure screening, offered by the Turnpike’s EMS providers, and to learn the correct way to install child safety seats, demonstrated by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop T.

Commanding Officer Troop T Captain David Points said, "Statistics show that approximately 90 percent of all child safety seats are incorrectly installed. Our goal is to show our customers the proper way of installing safety seats to give their children the best possible protection and security while they travel on the Turnpike and on all other roads, streets and highways." Points added that the lack of proper restraints for children in a moving vehicle is a primary violation.

All participating travelers will receive a coupon from the Host Marriott Corporation for a free drink. Additionally, the Turnpike’s Safety Department will offer complimentary safety related materials.
