PA Route 51 in Jefferson Hills to Close for Two Seven-Hour Periods
this Weekend for Mon/Fayette Expressway Bridge Work

Pa. Route 51 in the Large area of Jefferson Hills Borough will be closed to all through traffic from 4 AM to 11 AM Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29, weather permitting, so that ironworkers can erect steel beams for dual bridges that will carry Mon/Fayette Expressway ramps over the highway.

The construction site is near the Dick Corporation offices, at the south end of the 2.3-mile stretch of Route 51 that was rebuilt in 1999 and 2000. Identical traffic restrictions for the same purposes were put into effect for the weekend of December 2 and 3, 2000.

Motorists will be able to travel north or south on Route 51 to the closure points but will not be able to pass through the construction site. No other movements will be restricted.

Detours will be posted. Northbound traffic will be directed to Pa. Route 837 near Elizabeth, then to Pa. Route 885 and then onto Lebanon Church Road for re-entry onto Route 51 near Century III Mall. The same sequence in reverse will be posted for southbound traffic.

The dual bridges are part of the Mon/Fayette Expressway’s interchange with Route 51 via the new Jefferson Boulevard, which will serve as the northern terminus of the system until the Pittsburgh leg is constructed.
