A portion of State Route 2016 (Old Route 71) in Fallowfield Township, Washington County will be closed to all non-local traffic Thursday, September 24, 1998, through Monday, October 5, 1998, due to construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway. Crews will be erecting structural steel for bridges that will carry the expressway over S.R. 2016.

Beginning Thursday, September 24 and continuing through Monday, October 5, 1998,

Old Route 71 will be closed between State Route 481 and State Route 2027, except for local traffic. Local traffic only will be allowed up to the construction site, located between S.R. 2037 (Twin Bridges Road) and Fallowfield Township Road 882 (Cooper Road).

The posted detour will follow State Route 481, Interstate 70 and State Route 2027.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is building dual bridges 1,000 feet long and 205 feet high to carry the Mon/Fayette Expressway over Old Route 71, Maple Creek and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad tracks. The construction site is approximately one mile north of Interstate 70.
