More Food Choices for
Turnpike Travelers

Starbucks, Pizza Hut Express, Pretzel Mania, Rita's Italian Ice Now Available at Turnpike Service Plazas

What do you do when your driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and you're in the mood for a cup of Starbucks coffee? Perhaps you crave a little snack, like a Pretzel Mania pretzel or some Rita's Italian Ice. You might even be hungry for something a bit more filling, like Pizza Hut Pizza.

You're in luck! All are now available or coming soon to selected Turnpike service plazas.

There once was a time when your choice of eateries on the Turnpike was limited to the venerable Howard Johnsons. The Turnpike's 22 service plazas now boast a wide array of food concepts ranging from sit-down restaurants like Bob's Big Boy and King's, to fast food outlets such as McDonalds, Burger King, Sbarro, Popeye's, Arbys, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Roy Rodgers.

The Turnpike has expanded the food selection available to travelers through the development of mini-food courts at various service plazas. Mrs. Field's cookies, TCBY yogurt, Breyers ice cream, Pillsbury Bakeries, Flower Pot Cookies, Hot Dog City hot dogs, Pretzel Time pretzels, Nathan's hot dogs and Auntie Anne's pretzels, as well as snack bars at various locations, give hungry motorists a wide selection of food choices.

Rita's Italian Ice opened at the Allentown Service Plaza last fall and is ready for its first Summer season of dishing out the Italian delicacy to Turnpike travelers.

Additional new services are now being added to various service plazas. Scheduled for opening during 1998 are a Starbucks at the North Neshaminy Service Plaza; Pizza Hut Express at Bowmansville and Allentown; and Pretzel Mania at South Somerset.

Tasty Cake pastries will replace Entenmann's at the South Neshaminy and King of Prussia service plazas. Hot Dog City hot dogs will be available at the North and South Midway, South Somerset and Plainfield service plazas. Gourmet Bean coffee will be served at Lawn, Allentown and Highspire while Hershey Ice Cream will be dished out at Lawn, North Midway and South Midway. New Nathan's are in operation at Valley Forge and Allentown in addition to previously existing facilities at the North Neshaminy and Peter J. Camiel Plazas.

And, if you're a little short on cash to pay for the goodies you've selected, MAC machines are now available at the Hempfield, New Stanton, South Somerset, South Midway, Sideling Hill, Blue Mountain, Bowmansville, Peter J. Camiel, Valley Forge, King of Prussia, South Neshaminy, Hickory Run and Allentown service plazas. ATMs will be installed at the remaining service plazas over the coming months.

For additional information on all the services available at each of the Turnpike's 22 service plazas, consult the Turnpike Traveler Guide in the printed edition of this Turnpike Traveler.
