TRAFFIC ADVISORY
SINGLE-LANE RESTRICTIONS ENDING, CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND ON AND OFF
RAMPS AT DONEGAL INTERCHANGE EXPEDITED
A single-lane configuration for eastbound traffic on Interstate
76/70 in the Donegal area was lifted as of 10 am today, well in advance
of the previously announced timeframe. By late morning, crews were
moving barriers to re-open the Turnpike to two lanes for westbound
traffic.
The single-lane setups were put into effect at 10 pm Sunday. A two-lanes-westbound
configuration should be in place by mid-afternoon today.
Consequently, a 10-day closure of westbound traffic movements into
and out of the Turnpike’s Donegal interchange (Milepost 90.7)
in southeastern Westmoreland County was implemented at about 10 am
today, also earlier than anticipated.
The ramp closures are necessary so that workers can finish a bridge
demolition at the interchange that is part of the $66.8 million total
reconstruction project between Milepost 85 and MP 94.
Westbound motorists on Interstate 76/70 cannot exit at Donegal and
motorists are unable to enter the Turnpike at Donegal and proceed
west. Eastbound movements into and out of Donegal are not affected.
Restrictions on the westbound movements into and out of Donegal are
to be lifted as of 11 pm Thursday, July 31. The schedule is subject
to change, especially in the event of severe weather.
Detours are posted. In addition, message boards on the Turnpike are
informing drivers of the restrictions and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR)
messages are being broadcast on 1640 AM.
Westbound traffic on the Turnpike that typically would exit at Donegal
should instead exit at Somerset (MP 110) and follow the orange detour
– Pa. Route 601 South to Pa. Route 31 West.
Traffic that typically would enter the Turnpike at Donegal to proceed
west should follow the blue detour – Route 31 West to Pa. Route
982 South to U.S. Route 119 North to Turnpike entry at New Stanton.
A black detour is posted for commercial vehicles that typically would
enter the Turnpike at Donegal to proceed west. The black detour is
Pa. Route 711 North to U.S. Route 30 West to Turnpike 66 South to
Interstate 76 entry at New Stanton.
More information about the project, including shots from real-time
traffic cameras, is available online at www.paturnpike.com. On the
