TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Pa. Route 51 in the Large area of Jefferson Hills Borough will be closed to all traffic from 3 AM to 11 AM Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3, weather permitting, so that ironworkers can erect steel beams for dual bridges that will carry Mon/Fayette Expressway ramps over the highway. The closures will occur at the construction site near Worthington Avenue and Brickyard Road, at the south end of the 2.3-mile stretch of Route 51 that was recently widened and rebuilt by the Turnpike Commission. Motorists will be able to travel north or south on Route 51 to the closure points but will not be able to pass through the construction site. No other movements will be restricted. Detours will be posted. Northbound traffic will be directed to Pa. Route 837 near Elizabeth, then to Pa. Route 885 and then onto Lebanon Church Road for re-entry onto Route 51 near Century III Mall. The same sequence in reverse will be posted for southbound traffic. Construction of the dual bridges is part of a $21.8 million contract awarded last February 1 to Swank Associated Companies, Inc. of New Kensington. The contract involves construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway’s interchange with Route 51. |
