PUBLIC MEETINGS SET FOR PROPOSED SOUTHERN BELTWAY PROJECT BETWEEN U.S. ROUTE 22 AND INTERSTATE 79 The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will host open house public meetings from 4 to 9 pm December 5, 6, 7 and 13 to present updated information on the Southern Beltway Project from U.S. Route 22 and Interstate 79. Locations are Cecil Middle School at 3676 Millers Run Road, McDonald on Tuesday, Dec. 5; South Fayette High School at 2254 Old Oakdale Road, McDonald on Wednesday, Dec. 6; Fort Cherry High School at 110 Fort Cherry Road, McDonald on Thursday, Dec. 7; and Pittsburgh Technical Institute at 1111 McKee Road, Oakdale on Wednesday, Dec. 13. There will be no formal presentations. Interested persons can attend any of the sessions anytime between 4 and 9 pm. The same information will be presented at each open house. Turnpike Commission staff and consultants will be on hand at various display stations to answer questions. The purpose of the meetings is to present data that has been gathered about the prospective alignments during the course of detailed studies and to obtain public input on the information. A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) identifying a preferred alignment will be circulated for public review and comment, probably in Summer 2001. Engineers will review public comment and input from state and federal agencies involved in the development of the project as they further study, refine and deliberate the alternatives. The Southern Beltway Project between Route 22 and I-79 would measure 12 to 13 miles and pass through the McDonald area in a southeasterly direction from an interchange with Route 22 between Candor Road and Robinson Church Road in Robinson Township, Washington County. It is the middle of three Southern Beltway projects that would interconnect to form a 30-mile expressway linking Pittsburgh International Airport and the Mon/Fayette Expressway near Finleyville. |
