PA Route 22 to I-79 - B-2 Alternative

The B-2 Alternative was developed as a connection between U.S. Route 22 and Interstate 79 with a route south and west of McDonald Borough. It was developed to minimize usage of the potentially developable reclaimed strip mine areas and cross to the east of Quicksilver Golf Course. It originates at U.S. Route 22 in the same location as the B-1 Alternative and follows along the same path until it diverges from the B-1 Alternative north of the crossing over Beech Hollow Road in Robinson Township. Beech Hollow Road would be realigned through the former strip mine from the Candor Road area to an intersection with Donaldson Road on PA Route 980. An interchange would be provided along the relocated Beech Hollow Road. The B-2 Alternative then proceeds in a southerly direction crossing Quicksilver Road east of the Quicksilver Golf Course. The Alternative then traverses the large reclaimed strip mine area, avoiding impacts to residential areas, before interchanging with a new connector road. The new connector road would link PA Route 980 with Fort Cherry Road and the Southern Beltway. The Alternative then proceeds to the south crossing over Noblestown Road, west of McDonald Borough.

The B-2 Alternative proceeds east from the crossing of Noblestown Road into Cecil Township, Washington County to a crossing of PA Route 980, south of McDonald Borough.

From the crossing of PA Route 980, the B-2 Alternative continues in a southerly direction toward the Allegheny / Washington county line to where it converges with the B-1 Alternative. From this point, south of Noblestown Road and east of the Allegheny/Washington County line, the B-2 Alternative follows the same alignment as the B-1 Alternative to its southern end point at Interstate 79.

The overall length of the B-2 Alternative is approximately 13.3 miles.
