Reconstruction MP 210 to MP 215  and Early Action Bridge Projects

 

The purpose of this web site is to provide you with timely, accurate construction project information to facilitate a favorable travel experience when using Pennsylvania's Turnpike system.

TOTAL RECONSTRUCTION MP 210 TO MP 215

 

This five-mile-long total reconstruction project is located midway between Blue Mountain (Exit 201) and Carlisle (Exit 226). Construction consists of the total reconstruction and widening of the Turnpike to six lanes between Milepost 210.9 and Milepost 215.3. In addition to the new roadway, three overhead bridges will be replaced along with the replacement of two mainline bridges.

This construction is part of the Commission's goal of rebuilding the Turnpike between the Blue Mountain Tunnel, MP 200 and the Carlisle Interchange, MP 226.

In preparation for additional major reconstruction projects, Early Action Projects are being utilized. Additional information regarding these projects is available in the following Early Action Projects section.

PROJECT SUMMARY:
Total roadway and bridge reconstruction between MP 210.9 and 215.3

CONSTRUCTION START:
March 2008.

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETION:
November 2009.

PROJECT TOTAL:
$61.7 million.

EARLY ACTION BRIDGE PROJECTS

MP 216 TO MP 222

This project involves the replacement of three overhead bridges and elimination of one overhead bridge. The replacement bridges involve SR 4021 (Bloserville Road). T-405 (Old Mill Road), and T-482 (McAllister Church Road). The bridge elimination involves T-483 (Dyarman Road).

Bloservile Road, Old Mill Road and McAllister Church Road are located in West Pennsboro Township. Dyarman Road is located in North Middleton Township.

This project also includes new maintenance ramps at MP 217.3 EB & WB.

 

 

SUMMARY:

Replace three bridges and eliminate one bridge between  MP 215.96 and MP 221.63.

CONSTRUCTION START:

December 2008

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETION:

November 2009

PROJECT TOTAL:

$10  million

 

MP 204 TO MP 205

 

This project involves the replacement of the overhead bridge at MP 204.25, Three Square Hollow Road and the removal of the overhead bridge at MP 204.91, Potato Point Road.

SUMMARY:

Replace one bridge at MP  204.25 and remove one bridge at MP 204.91

CONSTRUCTION START:

December 2008

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETION:

November 2009

PROJECT TOTAL:

$3.8  million

CARLISLE INTERCHANGE

RAMP CONSTRUCTION AND  REPLACEMENT OF INTERCHANGE BRIDGE

 

 

The project includes complete reconstruction of the variable width ramp pavements, between the Turnpike and the Toll Plaza, within the Carlisle Interchange.

The contract includes construction of concrete ramps, removal of the existing interchange bridge with a two span continuous steel plate girder bridge, replacement of roadway drainage facilities, guiderails, concrete median barriers, stormwater control facilities, erosion and sediment pollution controls and a conventional ramp lighting system.

 

 

SUMMARY:

Total Reconstruction of the Turnpike Carlisle Interchange including  replacement of the existing Interchange bridge. 

 

 

CONSTRUCTION START: February 4, 2009

 

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETION:

August 13, 2010

PROJECT TOTAL:

$ 11.8 million

 

GRADING AND DRAINAGE FOR CURVE ALIGNMENT IMPROVEMENTS – MP199.47 TO MP 200.38

 

 

 

This project provides for the construction of a highway embankment on new alignment between the east portal of Blue Mountain Tunnel and the Blue Mountain Interchange. Also included are culvert installation, erosion control facilities, storm water management facilities and right of way fencing.

 

SUMMARY:

Construction and realignment of highway between the Blue Mountain Interchange and the Blue Mountain Tunnel.

CONSTRUCTION START:

Projected for summer 2009

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETION:

May 18, 2012

PROJECT TOTAL:

$ 8.47 million
