Gettysburg Pike Interchange
Artist's rendering of  Gettysburg  Pike Toll Plaza and Interchange, 2006

PROJECT SUMMARY:
Modification and expansion of Toll Plaza, Utility Building, Roadway and Structures including replacement and rehabilitation of bridges.

PROJECT START:
December 2005

PROJECT COMPLETED:
October 2007

PROJECT TOTAL: Approximately $29 million

All major construction has been completed on the Gettysburg Pike Interchange project.

The Gettysburg Pike Interchange Project included the modification and expansion of the Toll Plaza and Utility Building at exit 236.  The project also replaced bridges EB-815 and EB-114 and the rehabilitation of bridge EB-113A.

Three new Exit lanes (numbers 7, 8 and 9) are open to traffic at Interchange!  These new lanes are located on the far right side of the plaza for motorists exiting the Turnpike. Motorists exiting the Turnpike will use new tollbooths. Lane 7 will be marked as a dedicated E-ZPass, or “E-ZPass Only” lane; lanes 8 and 9 will accept both E-ZPass and cash payments. Exiting motorists will also notice three new overhead lane-identification signs. These bright LED signs make it easier to distinguish between E-ZPass and cash lanes. A new fare-collection office will also be opened tomorrow at Gettysburg Pike.
Motorists getting on the Turnpike at Gettysburg Pike will still use the same entry lanes. New lanes on the entry side will be built in the next construction phases. The new permanent entry lanes will open in the late fall of this year. The work is part of a $28-million reconstruction and expansion of the Gettysburg Pike Interchange that was begun in the spring of 2005, with anticipated completion before Thanksgiving this year. Upon completion, the new interchange will have nine total lanes - three entry lanes and six exit lanes. (It presently has two entry and three exit lanes.) The on and off ramps and bridge at the interchange are also being replaced as part of the undertaking.

The project was completed on schedule, in October 2007.
