While Act 44 allows up to 10 toll locations, preliminary studies indicate only nine tolling points would be needed.
To determine the location of the tolling points, the study team carefully considered the geometry of surrounding roadways, potential traffic diversions, regional traffic patterns and spacing between tolling points. Based on this review, two to three areas
within each tolling zone were identified as potential locations for a tolling point. Preliminary toll location options were presented to legislators and regional planning agencies in July and early August 2008 for review and comment.
Based on the studies and local feedback received to date, the study team has identified a favored location within each of the nine zones. Click the map above for details on each location.
The study team understands that traffic diversion is the primary public concern and identified the favored locations based on the least amount of diversion projected. To further minimize diversions the Turnpike has offered an incentive to keep drivers on I-80. E-ZPass customers driving 2-axle passenger vehicles will NOT pay a toll UNTIL the SECOND TOLLING POINT. This will REDUCE the traffic diversions presented by 60 to 80 percent, depending on location.
