As part of the application process, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission PTC developed a Capital Improvement Plan to address transportation needs. The PTC plans to invest approximately $250 million per year over the first ten years of its Capital Improvement Plan.

In the first 10 years, motorists will see:

  • Significant improvements to nine interchanges in Monroe County
  • Safety improvements to an additional 14 interchanges and five other ramp locations along the corridor, and
  • Construction of the I-99 high-speed and associated local interchange.

Over the next 50 years, motorists from Mercer County to Monroe County will experience the benefits of over $20 billion worth of improvement projects along I-80. Some of these projects include:

  • Reconstruction of ALL I-80 roadway
  • Replacement of ALL I-80 original bridges
  • Improved highway communication and motorist information.

Historically, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation PennDOT has invested $50-$60 million per year in capital improvements for I-80. This Capital Plan significantly increases that investment. Approximate yearly expenditures for roadway, bridges, interchanges and intelligent transportation systems are:
