As part of the application process, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission PTC developed a Capital Improvement Plan to address transportation needs. The PTC plans to invest approximately $250 million per year over the first decade of its Capital Improvement Plan.
In the first 10 years, motorists will see:
Significant improvements to nine interchanges in Monroe County,
Safety improvements to over 15 interchanges along the corridor, and
Construction of the I-99 high-speed and associated local interchange.
Over the next 50 years, motorists from Mercer County to Monroe County will experience the benefits of over $10 billion worth of improvement projects along I-80. Some of these projects include:
Reconstruction of ALL I-80 roadway,
Replacement of ALL I-80 original bridges, and
Improved highway communication and motorist information.
Historically, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation PennDOT has invested $50-$60 million per year in capital improvements for I-80. This Capital Plan significantly increases that investment.
