Act 44
Revenue Sources

  • Turnpike Mainline tolls are expected to increase 25% in 2009 and 3% each successive year.
  • If the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approves the Pennsylvania proposal, Interstate 80 (I-80) tolls will begin in 2010 at effective rates similar to those on the Turnpike.
  • The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) will invest approximately $2.5 billion in the next decade in I-80 rehabilitation and reconstruction of roadway, bridges, interchanges, and intelligent transportation systems. Another $1 billion will be used for ongoing resurfacing, asset management and operating and maintenance costs.
  • No I-80 toll revenues and no bonds backed by I-80 toll revenues will be used for public transit purposes.
