Project Overview
Valley Forge Service Plaza
The Valley Forge Service Plaza is one of the remaining 12 service plazas targeted for extensive rehabilitation as part of the Turnpike’s Service Plaza Development Program. The Valley Forge Service Plaza is tentatively scheduled to be closed immediately after Labor Day 2013, and reopened by Memorial Day 2014.
The Turnpike's Service Plaza Development Program includes a total of 18 service plazas located throughout the Turnpike system. HMSHost and Sunoco, the food and fuel providers respectively, are performing the work under concession agreements with the Turnpike Commission. The buildings at each location will be replaced with the exception of several of the buildings found to have historical significance; those buildings will be rehabilitated. Convenience stores will be relocated into the buildings at all locations, and fueling facilities will be upgraded at all plazas. Other improvements include realignment/resurfacing of parking areas, new landscaping, and new lighting.
The typical construction schedule for all plazas is to close after Labor Day and reopen by Memorial Day the following year. It is anticipated that the entire plaza development program will be completed by 2014.
