PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission recognizes that Turnpike customers are not just the folks who travel the turnpike but those who live and work near the Turnpike as well. As this project begins to move through the final design stage, we want to make sure we exercise every opportunity to address local concerns and incorporate the input of our legislators, local officials as well as the community that will ultimately have to live with this project once all of the work is done.

In 2007, the PTC added the firm of KCI Technologies to its project team to guide its public outreach efforts. The first act of the public outreach team was the design and activation of this project-specific Web site launched in February of 2007.

Public outreach efforts include:

Legislative Roundtables: The PTC recently extended an invitation to the legislators, Chester County Commissioners and Tredyffrin Township officials to take part in a roundtable session for an overview of the project and the public outreach plan. The Roundtables are intended to serve as a forum for open dialogue between local and elected officials and the PTC's project team members. Roundtables will be held at various times throughout the final design process.

Design Roundtable: The PTC formed a Design Roundtable comprised of representatives from local civic and special interest groups. The primary purpose of the Design Roundtable for this project will be to keep the PTC's project team in touch with local issues and concerns during the final design phase of the project. Public Plans Display: The public outreach initiative also includes holding a plans display to give the community at large an opportunity to review the project engineering design details. The information that will be conveyed at this meeting will include proposed stormwater basin locations, right-of-way impacts and proposed noise wall locations and other engineering design details, as well as traffic control plans for the early action bridges. The Commission anticipates holding a plans display in Fall 2008.
