Community Involvement
Design Roundtable
The formation of a Design Roundtable (DR) is in response to widespread interest by a number of project stakeholders and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's (PTC) desire to work with stakeholders to address community concerns. It is our intention to continue this open dialogue throughout the project's design phase to facilitate the successful and timely completion of a project that meets the needs of the Turnpike traveler without compromising the quality of life of those communities adjacent the project area.
The role of the DR is an advisory body - not a policy-setting or decision-making body. The input and recommendations the DR provides to the PTC is for their consideration. The primary role of each DR Group Representative is to enhance the exchange of information and opinions between the community and the project team by providing input throughout the process that reflects the general sense of the group they represent and by relaying appropriate information back to their communities.
The purpose of the DR is to achieve the following goals:
- To encourage two-way dialogue
- To share accurate, timely project information
- To listen to each others' input/concerns
- To work together on design improvements, enhancements and/or mitigation within the criteria set up by the regulatory agencies
The DR, at its first meeting, held Thursday, May 15, 2008 approved the Working Principles which sets forth a plan for working together and achieving its goals. Click here to view the Working Principles.
