The reconstruction of the Turnpike from MP 85 to MP 94 is now substantially complete with minor punchlist and clean-up remaining. Originally scheduled for completion in December 2005, the project achieved substantial completion in November of 2004, over one year earlier than planned.

An overview of the project involved the removal of the existing pavement and shoulders through the mainline and interchange ramps, and their subsequent replacement with new full depth asphalt pavement. The structure work included the replacement of the Donegal interchange bridge, the construction of thirteen retaining walls, and the rehabilitation of seven other bridge and culvert structures. The entire Turnpike was also relocated from MP 92 to MP 93 to improve safety by eliminating an existing “S” curve. Other improvements included the installation of new guiderail, concrete barrier, drainage pipes, and lighting of the Donegal Interchange.
